OEEO - Office of Equal Employment Opportunity
  What We Do

The Office of EEO is responsible for evaluating and reporting on public authority progress towards the achievement of a diverse workforce. This includes reporting on public sector progress towards the achievement of the objectives of the Equity and Diversity Plan 2006-2009 (EDP). This evaluation is primarily achieved through analysis of the demographic profile of employees and achievements against agency EO Management Plans.

Reviews of agencies are also conducted using climate surveys and other information. Feedback is provided through presentations to corporate executive groups. Progress reports, which include sector benchmarks, are provided to larger organisations (with more than 100 employees) and to the relevant Minister.

Equal Opportunity Commission
The Equal Opportunity Commission investigates and attempts to conciliate complaints lodged by people who believe they have been discriminated against under the Equal Opportunity Act 1984. Commission staff deal with any general concerns or queries about rights and responsibilities under equal opportunity laws. The commission is also committed to raising awareness of the Act to the general community.

The Equal Opportunity Commission provides a variety of training services to inform and promote the principles of equal opportunity to individuals, employers, employees, equal opportunity coordinators, representatives of public and private sector agencies as well as community and voluntary groups.

Further information can be found on the Equal Opportunity Commision website.

Consulting Services
A consultancy service is available to Public Sector agencies engaged in self-assessment of their equity outcomes. The emphasis on all consultancy services offered by the Office of EEO is on how productively employing difference assists organisations to meet their objectives. Diversity is consistent with but broader than EEO. Whereas EEO is concerned with the needs of individuals, diversity focuses on the needs of the individual in the context of the organisation's key business outcomes.

Reporting
The evaluation and reporting team measures, evaluates and reports on progress against diversity objectives and produces regular and ad hoc reports on achievement of EEO objectives.

This function is provided for a range of functions across the whole of the Office of the Public Sector Standards Commissioner in human resource management, ethics and public interest disclosures as well as equity. This integrated approach facilitates enhanced evaluation and analysis across these closely aligned areas.
